New Bloch Folk Art Painting

Bloch’s final month at the winter camp in Teufen (CH)

Soon Bloch will hit the road again. In the local newspaper Marcus Gossolt gives a preview to the upcoming US trip to North Dakota, a collaboration with Barbara Hauser (CH) and Troyd Geist (US). In the meanwhile Bloch takes part in the current show “Bauernkunst” at Zeughaus Teufen about local folk and farmer art from the last 300 years. On April 25th there will be a final ceremony when Bloch gets packed and picked up by the transportation company.

Holzwege sind scheinbar zufällige, von Holzfällern und Jägern geschaffene Wege im Wald, die oft unvermittelt abbrechen oder sich im Dickicht verlieren. Der Titel der Ausstellung verweist zudem auf eine Sammlung von Schriften Martin Heideggers, die uns lehren, die gewohnten Wege zu verlassen und uns auf Holzwege zu begeben, wenn wir in den Wald des Seins eindringen möchten. Das „postironische Manifest“ markierte eine solche Kehrtwende im Werk von Com&Com. So entdeckten die Künstler (wieder) das originäre Werk und begannen von Hand arbeiten: Zu malen, zeichnen oder schnitzen. Vermehrt wird auch der direkte Kontakt zum Publikum gesucht (Performances, Talks, Workshops, Spiel und Vermittlung). Mit „Bloch“ lancierte Com&Com 2011 ein prozessorientiertes, Völker- und Kulturen verbindendes Austauschprojekt, bei dem ein Appenzeller Baumstamm als Bühne für künstlerische wie theoretische Produktionen um die Welt reist. Daran kristallisieren sich neue Geschichten und Werke, deren Ausgang offen und ein Experiment sind.

Urnäsch – Prologue

On March 7 2011, Swiss artist duo Com&Com purchased the 2011 Bloch (trunk no. 23781) at the biannual Bloch festival in Urnäsch.
